Meat consumption

Neither the Old nor the New Testament forbid us to eat meat. Rather, the Bible assumes that meat can serve to nourish human beings. The decision as to whether to eat meat, including blood pudding (blood sausage) produced from pig’s blood, etc., or to pursue a vegan lifestyle, lies within the realm of each individual’s personal freedom of choice. The various points of view should be respected.

Those who are health conscious will seek to have as balanced a diet as possible and thus also pay heed to the thought expressed in 1 Corinthians 6 that the body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. Consequently we have been called upon to care for our bodies in a responsible manner. Exactly how everyone does this is a matter of personal responsibility.

Above all however, we must remember that “the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking” (Romans 14: 17). We are not concerned with whether or not we should heed dietary laws and other external prescriptions, but rather we are to see to the “inner man” and deny “ungodliness and worldly lusts” (cf. Titus 2: 12–14).
