When we celebrate Palm Sunday today we are following the tradition of the Christian congregation in Jerusalem. It is said that already around the year 400 this congregation would gather on the Mount of Olives and descend in procession into the city. The children were said to carry palm leaves and olive twigs in their hands on these occasions. In our celebrations of Palm Sunday, the focal point is the Lord Himself, who, according to the accounts of the Gospels, has made Himself known to all peoples as the Messiah and the Prince of Peace. Good Friday is the one day in the earthly life of God's Son about which the authors of the gospels have recorded the most details by far. The four gospels dedicate a total of 13 chapters to the events of that day, stretching from the Last Supper of the Lord with the disciples to His farewell discourses, His capture and hearings, and His crucifixion and death. When we contemplate these events, which are of greatest significance in the history of salvation, we gain an increased awareness of the magnitude of the sacrifice which our Saviour Jesus Christ brought out of love for humankind. The grave had been under guard over the Sabbath right up until this morning. Along with some other women, Mary Magdalene made her way to the tomb. When they arrived, "there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow." The angel spoke to the women: "Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. Il Risorto restò ancora 40 giorni sulla terra ed apparì ai suoi. Se ne parla in tutti i Vangeli e in 1 Corinzi 15,5-7. Il tempo tra la Risurrezione e l'Ascensione serve a Gesù per mostrarsi quale “vivente”, colui che ha vinto la morte. [leggi]
La parola "Pentecoste" la troviamo, a parte gli apocrifi (per esempio Tobia 2,1), unicamente nel Nuovo Testamento. Il nome ha origine nella denominazione greca della "Festa delle settimane", una festa ebraica di riconoscenza per il raccolto. Le parole greche "heméra pentekoste" significano "il cinquantesimo giorno". Gli ebrei hanno poi usato questa denominazione per la "Festa delle settimane". [leggi]
